Italian and Spanish grapes dominate German wholesale markets as exports hit record levels

More than 90% of Italian grape exports are destined for European countries, with Germany, France, and Poland as the main buyers. National production in Italy for 2025 was 978,000 tonnes, with 44% shipped abroad and only 2% of grapes imported, confirming Italy's status as a leading exporter.
In Puglia, the IGP (Protected Geographical Indication) table grape sector doubled its sales volumes in the previous year, supported by the introduction of new seedless varieties and updated quality standards. Over 4,500 operators are involved, generating €112 million in certified product value. In Italy, families with children under 16 increased their purchases of packaged table grapes by 14% in 2025 compared to the previous year. This trend is seen as bucking the wider decline in fruit consumption among European youth.
