Sharp Drop in Raspberry Prices on European Wholesale Markets in August

2026-08-18 08:09

Wholesale raspberry prices in Europe have halved in mid-August, following a surge in supply from key producing countries.

In the second half of August 2026, European wholesale markets have seen a significant increase in raspberry availability, resulting in a sharp decline in prices. In the Warsaw wholesale market, which reflects broader regional trends, raspberry prices fell from approximately €9.3/kg (40 PLN) to around €4.6/kg (20 PLN) within a matter of days, driven by a surge in domestic and imported supply. This price correction is in line with the seasonal peak for raspberries in Central and Eastern Europe, when volumes from Poland, Serbia, and Ukraine typically reach the market simultaneously, intensifying competition among suppliers.

The European market is currently experiencing strong competition from multiple origins. Spain, while not in peak raspberry season in August, remains a key supplier during the shoulder months and is actively preparing for the autumn campaign targeting Central and Eastern European buyers, including Poland. Spanish exporters are focused on maintaining quality and competitive pricing to defend market share against rising volumes from Eastern Europe.

Demand for raspberries across Europe remains robust, but the rapid increase in supply during the main harvest period is outpacing consumption growth, putting further downward pressure on wholesale prices. Major buyers, especially in Central and Eastern Europe, are taking advantage of the lower prices to secure larger volumes for retail and processing.

Weather conditions in several producing countries have been generally favorable for raspberry production, supporting high yields in the main growing regions. However, the market is closely monitoring any potential disruptions, especially as the season transitions toward autumn, which could affect late varieties and greenhouse production.

Elsewhere in the berry sector, blueberry prices remain stable at €4.6–5.8/kg (20–25 PLN/kg) on wholesale markets, reflecting steady demand and a balanced supply situation. This stability contrasts with the pronounced volatility observed in the raspberry segment this month.
