Spanish bell pepper export value rises 7% amid stable volumes in early 2026

Spanish bell pepper exports reached 415,037 tonnes from January to May 2026, maintaining similar volumes to the previous year, while export value increased by 7% to €1.057 billion.

Between January and May 2026, Spain exported 415,037 tonnes of bell peppers, maintaining almost the same volume as in the same period in 2025. Despite the stable volume, the export value rose by 7%, reaching €1.057 billion. This growth in value reflects higher average prices for Spanish peppers on international markets during the period.

The average price for Spanish exported peppers in the first five months of 2026 was approximately €2.55/kg, calculated from the reported export value and volume. This price increase follows a general trend of higher valuations for Spanish vegetables, despite slight decreases in export volumes for some products.

Spain remains the leading exporter of bell peppers in Europe, with key destinations including Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Poland. The stable supply from Spain, coupled with higher prices, impacts import costs and competition for buyers in Central and Eastern Europe, including Poland.

The overall Spanish vegetable export sector saw a 1% drop in volume but a 10% increase in value between January and May 2026. Rising production costs, especially for fertilizers (+27%) and fuel (+50%), contributed to price increases at both export and wholesale levels.

Spanish agricultural organizations are actively investing in biotechnological projects, such as HARMONY, to improve pest management in strategic crops like peppers. These initiatives are aimed at supporting long-term supply stability and reducing reliance on chemical treatments.
