Spanish strawberry exports dominate EU market in 2025

2026-07-20 07:16

Spain exported 265,183 tonnes of strawberries in 2025, valued at €871 million, maintaining its lead as the top EU supplier.

Spanish strawberry exports reached 265,183 tonnes in 2025, accounting for 62% of Spain’s total berry exports. The exported value of Spanish strawberries was €871 million, representing 41% of the total value of Spanish berry exports. Spain remains the dominant supplier of strawberries to European markets, including Poland, where Spanish fruit competes with local production and other EU origins.

The overall Spanish berry export sector shipped 426,527 tonnes of berries in 2025, with strawberries as the largest single product by both volume and value. Blueberries and raspberries followed, with 100,241 tonnes (€691.5 million) and 53,178 tonnes (€505 million) exported, respectively. Blackberries and currants made up smaller shares, with 6,765 tonnes (€43 million) and 1,160 tonnes (€3.7 million).

The main export destinations for Spanish strawberries remain EU countries, with peak shipments occurring from March through June. The continued prominence of Spain in the strawberry market influences wholesale price dynamics and availability for importers across Europe, including Poland. Spanish strawberries are a key competitor for other EU producers, particularly during the spring and early summer.

The 2025 Spanish strawberry campaign was marked by stable export volumes despite periodic weather challenges in Huelva, the country’s main producing region. The leadership transition at Freshuelva, the main association representing Huelva’s strawberry exporters, is expected to maintain the sector’s international focus and trade priorities.

Spanish strawberries continue to set the benchmark for quality and supply in the European market, with Poland and other Central European countries relying on Spanish imports outside their own harvest windows.
