Wholesale peach prices stable in Italy and France; Greek exports to Poland surge

2026-07-08 08:41

Wholesale prices for peaches and nectarines in northern Italy remain steady at €1.5–2.0/kg amid slow sales, while Greek peach exports to Poland have risen by 157.9% compared to last year.

In the Italian wholesale markets, peaches and nectarines are trading at €1.5–2.0/kg this week, according to market reports from Trieste. Sales volumes remain limited, with demand described as slow but steady, particularly as consumption shifts towards coastal areas due to the tourist season. There are no significant price increases despite the start of the season for the renowned Verona IGP peach, which continues to be promoted as a key regional product.

In France, the peach and nectarine season is progressing at a strong pace, supported by persistent high temperatures which have boosted consumer demand. Despite the heatwave, no major damage has been reported to orchards, but pest pressure has increased, slightly slowing fruit growth and potentially impacting size. The supply remains ample but is expected to start decreasing from week 28 (July 5–10), earlier than usual. Retail promotions during the French Apricot Festival are helping to maintain a balanced market. Prices for peaches have remained stable, as supermarket chains are exerting downward pressure, and producers report that farmgate prices do not fully reflect the strong demand and good quality.

Greek peach exports reached 14,987 tonnes between 1 May and 3 July 2026, marking a 19.98% increase over the same period in 2025. Exports to Poland recorded a significant rise of 157.87%, making Poland the second-largest destination for Greek peaches after Romania. Exports to Italy also saw a notable increase (+1,182.47%), while shipments to Bulgaria, Ukraine, and Romania declined. The Greek industry is focusing on maintaining high quality standards as the harvest begins, with strict classification for processing peaches.

Spanish agro-food sector figures show continued strength in exports, although no specific peach or price data are given in recent national reports. The sector faces ongoing challenges from international competition and climate-related risks.

In the Italian wholesale market, other summer fruits such as melons are trading at €1.5–2.5/kg, and watermelons at €0.7–1.0/kg, providing context for peach price stability. Demand for Italian peaches and nectarines, while solid, is not experiencing any extraordinary peaks this week.
