Industrial apple purchase prices in Poland are maintaining their tendency to change, which has been observed in this sector of the fruit market since November. What is interesting, this quite significant dynamics of price changes is inversely proportional to the intensity of trade in the industry as the stream of raw material delivered to purchasers has almost dried up in the last week.
As noted by market participants, this is the key to such frequent changes in purchase prices or, more precisely, to their increases. This is because the current supply of apples has fallen sharply - so much so that many buyers have suspended their activities in this area and demand from processors is still high. Therefore prices are rising, although for a while it was clear that processors are trying to limit this trend. So far they have been unsuccessful.
What is also important is that at the end of November the price of dry mix rose more, while prices in the ordinary mix stabilized. Now the standard industry has increased in price, basically equalling the price of the dry industry. The current purchase prices are 0.40-0.46 PLN/kg for standard industry and 0.43-0.47 PLN/kg for dry industry. In the former case, the average price (0.43 PLN/kg) is at the level of April this year, i.e. at the end of last season. In the case of dry industry, this is still a few groszy away.
All market participants agree - there is a shortage of raw material and the price rise is necessary to encourage fruit growers to open cold stores with apples of currently unpopular varieties, whose prices for dessert remain low. The first information about such openings of cold stores has already appeared. Without such an apple, industry buying will come to a complete halt.
