March turned out to be a very good month for Polish apple exports, according to the latest CSO data.
The cumulative volume of apple exports in the 2020/2021 season (from July 2020 to March 2021) amounted to 518.11 thousand tonnes, and its value reached 963.09 million PLN, according to CSO data. In quantitative terms, the current season is therefore worse than the previous two. In terms of export value, it is significantly weaker than the 2019/2020 season, but better than the 2018/2019 season.

Compared to the 2018/2019 season, the decrease in the quantity of apples exported was: 178.6 thousand tonnes, or by 25.6 per cent. In contrast, the increase in value (in February the value was still lower than two years ago) was 36.6 million, or 4.0 per cent.
Compared to the 2019/2020 season, the volume decrease was: 51.4.4 thousand tonnes, or 9.0 per cent, and PLN 90.7 million, or 8.6 per cent. Here the differences are clearly smaller than in February.
And what is the breakdown of apple exports by month?

In terms of volume, March saw a 17.3 per cent improvement on February, and what's more, it was 28 per cent better than the November "peak".
Between March 2021 and March 2020 there was an increase of 17.8 per cent.

As for the value of apple exports in March 2021, it was 18.6 per cent higher than in February, and (as for volume) 38.7 per cent higher than the November 2020 peak. However, it is worth noting that the increase in value in March this year was not as dynamic as it was a year earlier.
In terms of March 2021 to March 2020, we also see an increase - by 6.5 per cent.
Now let's take a look at the average export prices of Polish apples (bearing in mind that their value is slightly understated in the presented data, as they also include apples for processing).

March 2021 saw a continuation of the upward trend in the price of export apples which resumed in February. The average price rose from February's level of 1.89 PLN/kg to 1.91 PLN/kg, i.e. by 1.1 per cent. Compared to December's average of 1.86 PLN/kg, it has risen by 2.7 per cent.
Here too, however, it can be seen that the price growth rate in March 2021 was significantly lower than a year earlier. In March 2020 the average price compared to February that year increased by 9,9 per cent and it was the beginning of a very dynamic price phase in the export of Polish apples.
Between March 2021 and March 2020, we therefore record a 9.6 per cent decrease in the average price. On the other hand, compared to the March 2019 level, we have an increase of 48.2 per cent.
