Big changes in green bean prices on the Polish market

2022-06-08 12:33

The downward trend in wholesale green bean prices has continued basically since the beginning of June. And it has been very dynamic throughout this period. Consequently, the drops in green bean prices recorded over the past few days have led to a fundamental change in the situation in this segment of the fresh vegetable market compared with last year and even the previous two years.

As a result of the continuing downward trend, large wholesale prices for green beans are now in the PLN 12.00-16.00/kg range. So since the beginning of this month, we have seen a fall of as much as 42 per cent. What's more, current prices are already lower than in the same period last year and two years ago! This is not good news for growers, although they can take comfort from the fact that the current lower prices, once translated into retail prices, will undoubtedly increase demand for beans.

And how do the figures compare with previous years? Currently, the average price is PLN 14.00/kg. A year ago it was PLN 16.00/kg, so we have a year-on-year fall of 12.5 per cent. Two years ago the average price was PLN 18.00/kg, so here the drop is -22 per cent. Comparison with 8 June 2019 is better - then the average price was at 13.50 PLN/kg, so the current price is less than 4 per cent higher than then.
