A year ago the supply crisis on the cauliflower market occurred in January and then it seemed to be already bad. But then the average price at the large wholesaler increased to "only" 7.50 PLN/piece. A second, deeper gap in the supply of cauliflowers appeared on the European market at the turn of March and April, and on 6.04.2020 the average price reached the ceiling of 12.00 zlotys/piece.
Now we have a repeat of that period. March is coming to an end and cauliflower prices on the Polish wholesale market have reached the level of a year ago. On the large wholesale market, the selling prices of imported (mainly from Spain) cauliflowers are most often 10.00-14.00 zł/unit, which gives an average of 12.00 zł/unit.
All this is due to problems with insufficient supply of these vegetables resulting from unfavorable weather conditions. At wholesale auctions in Spain the maximum price has increased in the last few days from 0.80 euro/unit to 2.24 euro/unit. However, it is worth noting here that the price range is currently huge in Spain, with the lowest prices yesterday at €0.65/unit. There is such a shortage of cauliflowers that even the smallest and ugliest ones are being traded, as they too will find buyers. A year ago the situation started to improve dramatically in the second half of April. It seems that the supply crisis will not last long now either.
