Export of frozen cherries from Poland after Q3 2021

2021-11-30 11:24
The volume of frozen sour cherries exported from Poland (CN 08119075 - Sour cherries (Prunus cerasus) uncooked or cooked by steaming or boiling in water, frozen, not containing added sugar or other sweeteners) amounted, after three quarters of 2021, to 46.2 thousand tons, and its value reached PLN 197.2 million. This means an increase in exports in this category year-on-year in terms of volume, as well as in terms of value.

After three quarters of 2020, frozen cherry exports amounted to 38.4 thousand tonnes and PLN 183.9 million. This means an increase in volume by 7.8 thousand tonnes, i.e. by 20.3%, and an increase in value by PLN 13.4 million, i.e. by 7.2%.

The average price of frozen cherries exported from Poland in the three quarters of 2021 was PLN 4.27/kg compared to PLN 4.78/kg in the same period of 2020, a year-on-year decrease of 10.7 per cent.

Here again, as in many other foreign trade categories presented by the CSO, we have a problem with Belarus, where the average price of frozen cherry exports is clearly underestimated. For the three quarters of 2021 it amounts to only 2.24 PLN/kg. This is not as low as in previous periods, but it is still the lowest price among all 59 countries that bought frozen cherries from Poland in this period. The second lowest price was for exports to Germany, at 4.20 PLN/kg. And exports to Belarus account for as much as one fifth of total exports in this category!

Germany, which increased its volume from 12.7 thousand tonnes to 14.0 thousand tonnes between the first three quarters of 2020 and the same period of 2021, has been ranked first on the list of Polish frozen cherry buyers.

Second place was maintained by Belarus, which reduced its volume from 11.7 to 9.4 thousand tonnes.

Third was France, which increased its volume from 2.5 to 2.9 thousand tonnes.

The Netherlands remained in fourth place, increasing its volume from 1.9 to 2.8 thousand tonnes.

The United States moved up to fifth place from ninth place by increasing its volume from 0.9 to 2.7 thousand tonnes.

The United Kingdom has dropped from fifth to tenth place despite a volume increase from 1.0 to 1.2 thousand tonnes.

As far as average prices for frozen cherries exported from Poland in the three quarters of 2021 are concerned, the highest average price among the five largest recipients was for fruit going to France - 5.59 PLN/kg, and the lowest for fruit sold to Belarus - 1.88 PLN/kg, mentioned above. Fruit exported to the largest customer, Germany, had an average price of 4.20 PLN/kg.
