Exports of highbush blueberries from Poland in 2021

The volume of the Polish export of the highbush blueberry (more precisely, the fruit of the CN 08104050 category - Fruits of the Vaccinium macrocarpon and Vaccinium corymbosum species, fresh) in 2021 amounted to 20.4 thousand tons, and its value reached 466.0 million PLN. This means a significant increase in exports in this category, both in terms of volume and value.

In 2020, export volume in this category amounted to 15.4 thousand tonnes and its value reached 389.1 million tonnes. This gives an increase in volume by 5.0 thousand tonnes, i.e. by 32.4 per cent, and an increase in value by as much as PLN 76.9 million, i.e. by PLN 177.6 million or by 19.8 per cent.

The average price of blueberries exported from Poland in 2021 amounted to 22.85 PLN/kg against 25.25 PLN/kg in 2020, which means a year-on-year decrease by 9.5 per cent.

Germany, where the export between 2020 and 2021 increased from 7.2 to 7.6 thousand tonnes, remained on the first place in the ranking of the largest buyers of Polish blueberries.

The United Kingdom remained in second place with an increase in purchased volume from 2.4 to 4.4 thousand tonnes.

In third place the Netherlands has strengthened its position with an increase in volume from 1.2 to 1.6 thousand tonnes.

In fourth place, Sweden has strengthened, increasing its volume from 1.2 to 1.3 thousand tonnes.

Belarus moved up to fifth from eighth place, increasing its volume from 0.3 to 1.0 thousand tonnes.

Norway dropped from fifth to seventh place with a volume reduction from 0.8 to 0.6 thousand tonnes.

Poland's most expensive export in 2021 was to Sweden, with an average price of 32.82 PLN per kilogram. The cheapest exports were to Belarus at 6.57 PLN/kg. Here, traditionally for CSO data, we have a clearly underestimated value for this country. The largest purchaser, Germany, was buying Polish blueberries at 22.94 PLN/kg on average.
