Higher prices of imported courgette on the Polish market

2021-11-16 11:18
In just a few days, the prices of imported courgette have jumped up in the Polish wholesale by almost 56 percent. Currently, the selling prices of this vegetable in the wholesale trade on a larger scale is usually 6.00-8.00 PLN/kg. This is on average 61 percent more expensive than in the same period last year.

This is due to the fact that at that time the Spanish vegetable market was in a completely different situation than now. The weather is primarily to blame. Back then, the supply of vegetables such as aubergines and courgettes grew rapidly thanks to good weather conditions in the south of the Iberian Peninsula, which meant that prices fell rapidly in November (-46 per cent between 2 and 13 November 2020).

Now the situation is different. The November weather in Spain is not favourable to the crop and the current supply is decreasing. We have already written about the resulting increase in aubergine prices on fresh-market.co.uk. Aubergines are followed by courgettes. Wholesale prices in Almeria have increased from around €0.56/kg at the beginning of November to €1.20/kg, an increase of 114 percent. The maximum price at auction yesterday was €1.50/kg.
