Import of oranges to Poland in Q1 2021

The volume of oranges imported to Poland (CN category 080510 - Fresh or dried oranges) in the first quarter of 2021 amounted to 69.6 thousand tonnes, and its value reached 213.0 million PLN. This means an increase in imports in terms of quantity, as well as in terms of value.

In the first quarter of 2020, imports in this category amounted to 61.5 thousand tonnes and PLN 177.4 million. This gives a year-on-year increase in volume by 8.1 thousand tonnes, i.e. by 13.1 per cent, and a year-on-year increase in value by PLN 35.6 million, i.e. by 20.1 per cent.

The average price of imported oranges in the first quarter of 2021 amounted to 3.06 PLN/kg compared to 2.88 PLN/kg in the corresponding period of 2020, which means a year-on-year increase by 6.3 per cent.

As for changes in the geographic structure of oranges imported to Poland between the first quarter of 2020 and the corresponding period of 2020, these changes were insignificant in the top five largest suppliers.

Spain managed to remain in the first place despite a decrease in the volume of deliveries from 32.8 to 29.8 thousand tonnes.

Greece has risen to second place with deliveries increasing from 13.4 to 17.1 thousand tonnes.

In third place, Germany has risen from 7.2 to 9.5 thousand tonnes.

In fourth place, Egypt has risen from 3.1 to 8.9 thousand tonnes.

Italy moved into fifth place from sixth with an increase in volume from 1.2 to 2.3 thousand tonnes.

And Portugal dropped to sixth place from fifth with a volume reduction from 21 to 1.4 thousand tonnes.

When it comes to average prices for oranges in the first quarter of 2021 from the above-mentioned largest suppliers, the highest price was for fruit imported from Portugal - 3.81 PLN/kg, and the lowest for those from Egypt - 2.48 PLN/kg. Oranges imported from Spain, the largest supplier, had an average price of 3.20 PLN/kg.
