Imports of leeks to Poland in 2021

The volume of leek imports (CN category 07039000 - Leeks and other bulbous vegetables fresh or chilled) to Poland in 2021 amounted to 10.9 thousand tonnes, with a value of 49.2 million PLN. This means a significant year-on-year increase in imports in this category.

In 2020, these imports amounted to 8.0 thousand tonnes and PLN 24.9 million, respectively. This gives a year-on-year increase in volume by 2.9 thousand tonnes, or 36.5%, and an increase in value by PLN 24.4 million, or 98.1%.

The average price of leeks imported to Poland in 2021 was 4.50 PLN/kg. In 2020 it was 3.10 PLN/kg. This is a year-on-year increase of 45.2 per cent.

Turkey is the leader in leek deliveries to Poland, having risen from sixth position to 3.3 thousand tonnes between 2020 and 2021.

Belgium has consequently dropped from first to second place with deliveries down from 3.7 to 2.7 thousand tonnes.

The Netherlands dropped to third from second place with an increase in volume from 1.4 to 2.3 thousand tonnes.

Germany has dropped from third to fourth place with a volume decrease from 1.4 to 1.1 thousand tonnes.

Spain has dropped to fifth place from fourth, with deliveries falling from 0.6 to 0.5 thousand tonnes.

France dropped from fifth to sixth place with deliveries increasing from 0.3 to 0.5 thousand tonnes.

As far as the five largest suppliers are concerned, leeks from Spain were the most expensive to import in 2021 with an average price of 7.96 PLN/kg. The cheapest imported vegetables were those from Germany at 1.28 PLN/kg. Leeks from the largest supplier, Turkey, had an average price of 2.25 PLN/kg.
