Limited supply of imported blueberries on the Polish market

2022-04-13 11:27

The blueberry harvest campaign in Spain is gaining momentum. Spanish estimates say that the harvested volume has exceeded the ceiling of a quarter of the quantities expected for the current season. At the moment, it may already be around 30 percent.

Despite this, the supply of imported fresh blueberries on the Polish market remains low and their prices are stable and high. The current level of wholesale prices for this fruit on the Polish market is a derivative of what is happening in Spain. There, prices have been falling in previous weeks, but the changes have been minimal. In week 13, the week of the latest Junta de Andalusia Price Observatory data, the average farm gate price for blueberries fell (week-on-week) from €5.60/kg to €5.56/kg, or by just 0.7 percent.

Prices in Spain now remain higher than at the same time last year, although the opposite was true until week 12. The mentioned price of 5.56 euro/kg was higher year-on-year by 0.4 per cent.

On the Polish market, blueberry prices remain stable and high. In the wholesale trade, on a larger scale, these are usually prices between 34.00 and 48.00 PLN/kg, depending on the packaging. In small wholesalers, on the other hand, the prices are at the level of 8.50-14.00 PLN per 250g package, depending on the region of the country.
