Pears got cheaper in Poland

2021-10-12 11:13
September brought falls in wholesale prices on the domestic pear market in Poland. The most popular variety - Conference - decreased in purchase by 23 per cent between September 13 and 22. After that, prices stabilised. Despite the large discount, domestic prices from remain at a relatively good level.

Currently the Conference is usually priced at 2.00-2.60 PLN/kg, depending on the quality, calibre and region of the country. Admittedly, it is by 11.5 per cent less than a year ago, but it must be remembered that in 2020 the fruit harvest in Poland, including the harvest of pears, was low. Current pear prices, on the other hand, are still higher than in the same period of 2018 (which was, in turn, very cheap), but also higher than in October 2019. This can be seen in our graph below.

The situation on the Polish pear market does not differ from that seen in other European countries that are significant producers of this fruit. While the apple trade and apple prices have had a strong upturn this autumn (although note here - Poland is the worst in this respect), both demand and prices remain in better shape in the pear market.
