WAPA has updated its forecasts

2021-12-13 10:48
WAPA gave an update on its forecasts for apple and pear yields in the northern hemisphere at its last meeting in December. How does this look for the apple harvest in the 27 EU countries plus the UK? Most of the adjustments made are not large, but two countries have been subject to significant changes to these forecasts.

In terms of the biggest change in absolute terms, it concerns the Polish apple harvest and WAPA has raised its August forecast by as much as 130,000 tonnes to 4.3 million tonnes, so 26 per cent more year-on-year. However, the relative change in the forecast for Poland is "only" +3 per cent.

The biggest relative change concerns Belgium, where the apple harvest was significantly higher than expected in the summer. This is a +25 percent change compared to the August forecast. In absolute terms, this means an increase of 48,000 tonnes to 240,000 tonnes. One more country, Austria, has increased its forecast by 5,000 t (+4%).

The remaining changes are decreases compared to the August forecast. The biggest decrease in absolute figures concerns Woch, by 23 thousand tons (-1 per cent). The others concern: France - down 12 thousand tonnes (- 1 percent) and the Netherlands - down 5 thousand tonnes (-2 percent).
