What are dessert raspberry prices in Poland?
The domestic raspberry season in Poland got off to a rather early start this year. There has been some doubt as to whether all of the fruit coming onto the market as domestic greenhouse produce is actually native. Interestingly, since the start of the campaign, we have had an interesting and highly differentiated price situation in the wholesale dessert raspberry segment.
The first quotations from the Kalisz exchange amounted to 40.00 PLN per kilogramme of fruit (250g packaged). And this price has remained until now. A relatively low price, we should add, as the first quotations from Bronisze near Warsaw amounted to 48.00-52.00 PLN/kg. Interestingly, a year ago, prices of the first domestic raspberries in Bronisze were at a similar level (47.50 PLN/kg on average, but the first quotation was on 14.06), and those in Kalisz were significantly higher than now (60.00 PLN/kg, followed by a drop to 50.00 PLN/kg).
More expensive year-on-year is now in Nowy Przybojewo. There, raspberry prices are at 50.00 PLN/kg per kilo, compared with 50.00 PLN/kg a year ago, but by the first week of June prices had already dropped to 37.50 PLN/kg.
This is only the very initial phase of the raspberry season in Poland, but it is already clear that the first prices are not record highs. Of course, we have to remember that last year we had a season of great raspberry shortages in Europe, and consequently very high prices. Will it be that expensive this year too? It seems that supply will be better, but we need to bear in mind that production costs have risen and that freezer warehouses are empty, so demand for fruit should be high.
