Blackcurrant Prices Surge at Bronisze Amid Post-Harvest Recovery
Polish wholesale and processing prices for blackcurrants have risen sharply in July, with Bronisze market quotations reaching €4.2–6.9/kg (18–30 PLN/kg) following a challenging harvest season.
At the Bronisze wholesale market near Warsaw on 24 July 2026, blackcurrant (czarna porzeczka) prices ranged from €4.2 to €6.9 per kg (18–30 PLN/kg), while redcurrants (porzeczki czerwone) were traded at €2.3–3.5/kg (10–15 PLN/kg). These prices reflect a strong increase compared to the beginning of the month, driven by limited supply and high demand from buyers and processors.
Processor purchase prices for blackcurrants also saw significant increases in July. According to the Ministry of Agriculture's report, the average farm-gate price for blackcurrants for juice production rose from €1.8/kg (7.97 PLN/kg) in the week of 6–12 July to €2.4/kg (10.51 PLN/kg) in the week of 13–19 July, a 32% week-on-week increase. Prices for blackcurrants intended for freezing climbed from €2.1/kg (9.23 PLN/kg) to €2.7/kg (11.72 PLN/kg) over the same period, up by 27%.
The 2026 harvest season for blackcurrants in Poland has concluded. Growers in Lublin province and other major production regions reported that high temperatures during the season caused fruit drop, sunburn, and leaf damage, impacting yields and fruit quality. Despite these challenges, the end of the season brought improved prices for producers selling to processors and on wholesale markets.
Current supply on the Polish market is limited as the harvest has ended, and available blackcurrants are primarily destined for processing or immediate sale at wholesale markets. Demand from processors remains strong, particularly for fruit suitable for juice and freezing, as reflected in the rapid price increases in July.
Weather conditions during the season were marked by prolonged heat, which affected both fruit and plant condition. Post-harvest, growers are focusing on plant regeneration and disease prevention to protect next year's potential yield.
