End of Cherry Season: Farm-Gate and Wholesale Prices Rise in Central Poland

Polish cherry harvest is nearly complete, with most growers finishing picking and processors accepting fruit until 8 August 2026. Late-season farm-gate and wholesale prices for sour cherries have increased compared to the peak harvest period.

At the Bronisze wholesale market near Warsaw, prices for sour cherries on 7 August 2026 ranged from €1.6 to €2.0/kg (7–8.5 PLN/kg). These prices reflect the late-season tightening of supply as the harvest draws to a close.

In the Grójec region, processors were buying cherries for freezing at €0.9/kg (4.00 PLN/kg) throughout the week leading up to 7 August 2026. Cherries for pressing were purchased at €0.7–0.7/kg (2.80–2.90 PLN/kg), with some larger lots reaching €0.7/kg (3.00 PLN/kg). These prices represent an increase of about €0.1/kg (0.50 PLN/kg) compared to rates prior to 3 August, when farm-gate prices for cherries for freezing were at €0.7–0.8/kg (3.20–3.50 PLN/kg).

The average farm-gate price for cherries for freezing in the 2026 season was €1.1/kg (4.70 PLN/kg), while cherries for pressing averaged €0.6/kg (2.40 PLN/kg). However, most growers sold the bulk of their crop at lower prices during the peak harvest in late July. For example, one grower who delivered cherries between 20 and 31 July received a weighted average price of €1.0/kg (4.40 PLN/kg).

Supply on the Polish market is now very limited, with more than 95% of the cherry harvest completed and only a small number of processors continuing to buy fruit beyond 8 August. The sector's focus is shifting to apples as the main processing fruit for the coming weeks.

The recent increase in farm-gate prices coincided with an announcement by the Ministry of Agriculture on 3 August 2026 regarding a request to investigate possible price collusion in the cherry market.
