Wholesale cucumber prices in Poland have dropped sharply following a surge in field-grown supply, with the widest price swings seen at the Bronisze market near Warsaw.

At the Bronisze wholesale market near Warsaw, field-grown (gruntowe) cucumbers reached up to €1.4/kg (6 PLN/kg) for the smallest calibres in late June 2026. However, prices for field cucumbers can drop to €1.2/kg (5 PLN/kg) depending on size and time of day. Meanwhile, greenhouse (brodawkowe spod osłon) cucumbers are under strong price pressure due to oversupply, trading mostly at €0.5–0.7/kg (2–3 PLN/kg) and, in some cases, as low as €0.3/kg (1.5 PLN/kg). Greenhouse smooth cucumbers from new plantings are priced at about €0.7/kg (3 PLN/kg), while fruit from older plantings is available for €0.3–0.5/kg (1.5–2 PLN/kg).

Other major wholesale markets show significant regional price differences. At the Łódź Zjazdowa market, field cucumbers are €0.7–1.4/kg (3–6 PLN/kg), while at the Elizówka market in Lublin, prices are €1.2–1.3/kg (5–5.5 PLN/kg). In Poznań (WGRO), a 5 kg box of field cucumbers costs €5.8–7.0 (25–30 PLN), equivalent to €1.2–1.4/kg. Specialty "małosolne" cucumbers are notably higher: €2.6–2.8/kg (11–12 PLN/kg) in Łódź and €3.0/kg (24 PLN/1.5 kg) in Poznań.

Demand for field-grown, light-skinned cucumbers remains highest among buyers, while interest in greenhouse, dark-skinned cucumbers is weak despite large availability. The influx of field-grown produce has led to reduced prices and made it harder for greenhouse growers to maintain quality and achieve higher prices. Retail promotions are also visible, with a major national chain offering Polish field cucumbers at €0.9/kg (3.99 PLN/kg) from 25 to 28 June.

The cucumber market is experiencing strong volatility. Just a week earlier, prices for some batches exceeded €1.2–1.4/kg (5–6 PLN/kg) due to temporary shortages, but the arrival of new field-grown supply quickly reversed the trend. Producers are accelerating sales due to the ongoing heatwave, which is causing rapid ripening and challenging quality maintenance. Open-air trading has slowed as buyers are cautious about larger purchases in the hot weather, fearing unsold stock.

In the context of international trade, phytosanitary controls remain strict. This week, a 6-tonne shipment of fresh cucumbers from Russia was returned at the Kazakh border due to non-compliance with phytosanitary procedures.
