On July 24, 2026, sour cherries (wiśnie) at the Bronisze wholesale market in Warsaw were trading at €1.8–3.0/kg (8–13 PLN/kg). After a period of stable or slightly increased prices earlier in the week, farm-gate prices for cherries for freezing in the Grójec region dropped from €1.4–1.4/kg (6.00–6.20 PLN/kg) at the start of the week to €1.3/kg (5.50 PLN/kg) on July 23, as local processing companies lowered their offers. In other regions, such as Łódzkie and Wielkopolskie, farm-gate prices ranged from €1.3–1.3/kg (5.60–5.80 PLN/kg) during the same period.
The decrease in farm-gate prices followed several days of industry rumors about upcoming reductions and was triggered by increased deliveries after rainfall limited harvest activity earlier in the week. On July 22 and 23, rain in central Poland temporarily reduced supply at wholesale markets and buying points, with some buyers unable to source fresh cherries, including the main processing variety Łutówka.
Harvesting activity has intensified in the Grójec region, with growers reporting that workers are moving through orchards more quickly than last year due to lower yields per tree, despite similar daily picking rates per worker. Most growers describe the 2026 Łutówka crop as slightly below last year's level. The previous season's national cherry production was estimated at 120,000 tonnes, though some producers believe that figure was overstated.
Labour costs for pickers are reported at €0.32–0.35/kg (1.40–1.50 PLN/kg) for Łutówka, with most workers unwilling to accept less than €0.30/kg (1.30 PLN/kg). The harvest is expected to be short and intense, with a significant decrease in deliveries anticipated in the first week of August.
Local differences in farm-gate prices reflect the number of buyers active in a given area, with more competition for cherries in the Grójec region supporting higher prices compared to more remote regions. Weather forecasts indicate further rainfall, which may continue to affect daily supply to processors and markets.
