High Prices and Weather Losses for Blueberries in Poland, Early July
Wholesale prices for Polish blueberries remain high at around €7/kg at Bronisze in early July, despite a rise in domestic supply. Severe heat and drought have caused visible crop damage in some regions.
On the Bronisze wholesale market near Warsaw, the price for Polish highbush blueberries in early July 2026 is holding steady at approximately €7.0/kg (30 PLN/kg). This price level persists despite a gradual increase in domestic supply as the season progresses. Market observers note that the overall demand remains stable, but some disruptions in supply have occurred due to the extreme heat, affecting both volume and product quality.
The hot and dry weather in late June and early July has caused notable damage to blueberry crops, particularly on lighter soils where irrigation is less effective. Growers report symptoms of drought stress and fruit shriveling, especially in the 'Duke' variety. Even plantations with double drip lines are experiencing water access issues, as moisture is not spreading laterally in the soil profile. Plantations under hail nets and with intensive crop care have fared better, but visible losses are present in many open-field sites.
Some large-scale producers have adopted container cultivation with precise irrigation and fertigation systems, helping to mitigate weather risks and maintain high fruit quality. For example, an 18-hectare plantation near Legnica uses container systems with multiple drippers per plant, supporting consistent yields even under adverse weather conditions.
Spring frosts in 2026 did not cause significant damage to most commercial Polish blueberry plantations, as flowering was not fully underway during the coldest nights (down to –3°C). Later-flowering varieties like Sekoya® Grande avoided frost losses almost entirely and are showing high yield potential this season.
The increase in domestic blueberry supply is ongoing, but the combination of weather-related losses and the high cost of production inputs is keeping prices elevated compared to previous seasons. Buyer demand is reported as stable, although some market activity slowed temporarily during the peak heatwave, as smaller retailers and market stalls reduced operations.
