Lower Raspberry Supply and High Prices at Bronisze After Heatwave

2026-07-07 07:53

Polish wholesale raspberry supply has dropped due to recent high temperatures, with tunnel-grown raspberries now dominating the market and prices reaching €7.0–8.2/kg at Bronisze in early July.

At the Bronisze wholesale market in the first days of July 2026, raspberry prices for tunnel-grown fruit are reported at around €7.0–8.2/kg (30–35 PLN/kg), reflecting a limited supply. The volume of raspberries available from field production has temporarily decreased following a period of extreme heat, which negatively affected yield and harvest continuity. This supply gap has resulted in higher prices compared to previous weeks and a shift in market dominance toward tunnel-grown fruit, which is less sensitive to weather fluctuations.

Demand for raspberries remains strong, but many market stallholders and bazaar vendors reduced their operations during the hottest days, causing some instability in trade activity. Despite this, buyer interest is recovering as temperatures moderate. Wholesale buyers are prioritizing fruit from tunnel production due to its better quality and post-harvest durability, which is critical for both retail and export markets.

Ongoing harvests of summer raspberry varieties continue across Poland, but producers are now facing increased disease pressure, particularly from grey mold (Botrytis cinerea) and powdery mildew. The recent shift from heat to cooler, wetter weather has created favorable conditions for fungal outbreaks, which can reduce the marketable yield and shorten shelf life, increasing post-harvest losses.

Raspberry production in Poland remains characterized by a wide range of varieties, with growers selecting types based on market destination and production technology. Varieties such as 'Enrosadira' are preferred for stable yields and suitability for retail chains, while others like 'Malaika' are favored in tunnel systems for their robust post-harvest qualities and export potential.
