Maliny: sharp price drop at Bronisze as supply increases, heat reduces yields

2026-06-30 16:35

Wholesale raspberry prices at the Bronisze market have fallen to €4.7–5.8/kg (20–25 PLN/kg) at the end of June 2026, with supply from both field and tunnel crops increasing, but heat is reducing yields in many regions.

At the Bronisze wholesale market near Warsaw, raspberry prices have declined significantly as more Polish fruit reaches the market. As of late June 2026, wholesale prices for domestic raspberries are reported at €4.7–5.8/kg (20–25 PLN/kg), reflecting increased supply from both field and tunnel production. Tunnel-grown raspberries are still in higher demand due to their perceived quality, but first significant deliveries from open-field crops have begun to arrive, further boosting availability.

Demand from buyers remains solid, but the increased volume has led to downward pressure on prices. Traders at Bronisze are actively seeking tunnel-grown raspberries, indicating a preference for higher-quality fruit amid growing competition from field-grown batches. The larger supply has not been matched by a proportional increase in exports, and there is no mention of significant raspberry imports affecting the market at this time.

Weather conditions have had a notable impact on the current harvest. Persistent heatwaves have forced growers to restrict picking to early mornings and late evenings. On affected plantations, daily yields have dropped sharply; in one reported case, only 70 kg per hectare was picked in a day. Sunburn and heat stress are visibly damaging both leaves and fruit, particularly on south-facing rows and on varieties with less dense foliage, such as Glen Carron.

Intensive irrigation is being used to mitigate heat stress, but excessive watering risks fruit splitting. The variety Glen Ample is reported to cope better due to its denser leaf cover, though even these crops have seen some damage. Overall, current weather is expected to lower total yields for the season, but precise figures on the scale of crop losses are not yet available.
