Mazovia: Stable Early Potato Prices, Domestic and Imported Supply Compete
The Polish market in mid-June 2026 is marked by stable wholesale prices for early potatoes, with domestic supply dominant but imports from Egypt and Cyprus still present. Price differences reflect variety, quality, and product maturity.
At the Bronisze wholesale market near Warsaw in mid-June 2026, domestic early potatoes are widely available, with the Riviera variety selling at approximately €0.47/kg (2.00 PLN/kg) and the Irga variety, known for its lighter flesh, at €0.59–0.70/kg (2.50–3.00 PLN/kg), with the top price achieved for high-quality lots. Overall, Polish early potato prices at Bronisze range from €0.47 to €0.82/kg (2–3.50 PLN/kg), with Mazovia's Irga continuing to reach the upper end of the price range.
Imported early potatoes from Egypt and Cyprus remain present at Bronisze, priced at €0.47–0.59/kg (2.00–2.50 PLN/kg) for Egyptian lots and €0.59–0.63/kg (2.50–2.70 PLN/kg) for Cypriot potatoes. These imports are valued for their higher maturity and better cooking properties, serving as a substitute for last season's stored potatoes, which are nearly absent from the market.
Last year's domestic potatoes are now of marginal importance, with wholesale prices at Bronisze between €1.64 and €2.35 per 25 kg sack (€0.07–0.09/kg; 7–10 PLN/sack or 0.46–0.66 PLN/kg), depending on variety and quality. Dutch-imported old potatoes are offered at around €2.82 per 25 kg sack (€0.19/kg; 12 PLN/sack or 0.80 PLN/kg).
Demand for domestic early potatoes is strong, with buyers focusing on new harvests over old stocks. However, the delicacy of Polish early varieties means some food service and processing buyers still prefer imports for specific uses. The overall market situation is characterized by sufficient supply from both domestic farms and foreign sources, with price stability aided by steady inflows from Mediterranean suppliers.
Recent weather in Poland, including cool nights, has not significantly disrupted the ongoing early potato harvest. The main factor influencing current trade is the balance between growing domestic supply and the continued role of imports, especially for buyers seeking firmer, more mature potatoes.
