Polish Early Potato Prices Stabilise as Domestic Supply Grows, Imports Still Present

2026-06-29 19:00

Wholesale prices for Polish early potatoes at the Bronisze market in late June 2026 are mostly €0.5–0.7/kg, with Irga variety at the higher end. Domestic supply is strong, though imported potatoes from Egypt and Cyprus remain available.

At the Bronisze wholesale market near Warsaw in late June 2026, prices for Polish young potatoes of popular varieties mostly range from €0.5 to €0.7/kg (2.00–3.00 PLN/kg), with the Irga variety fetching the highest prices. Other early varieties such as Arrow and Riviera are traded below €0.5/kg (under 2.00 PLN/kg), though the price gap between varieties has narrowed compared to earlier weeks.

Domestic early potato supply is significantly higher than in early June, with the market now dominated by Polish product. However, imported young potatoes from Egypt and Cyprus are still available at Bronisze, offered at €0.5–0.6/kg (2.00–2.50 PLN/kg). These imports serve buyers seeking firmer tubers, as Polish new potatoes are softer and more delicate. Stored potatoes from last year's harvest have largely disappeared from the market; occasional lots of domestic stored potatoes are sold at up to €0.15/kg (0.66 PLN/kg), while imported stored potatoes from the Netherlands and Belgium are priced around €0.22/kg (0.93 PLN/kg).

The 2026 potato growing area in Poland, as reported to the ARiMR (Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture), is 185,120 hectares, a drop of over 25,000 hectares compared to the record 210,761 hectares in 2025. This reduction returns the sown area to levels seen between 2020 and 2023. The largest potato-growing region is Wielkopolska, with 28,300 hectares.

Demand for Polish young potatoes remains strong, with buyers shifting focus from imported to domestic product as the season progresses. Nonetheless, some buyers still select imports for specific culinary qualities. The current market is described as stable, with little price differential between domestic and imported new potatoes.

Weather conditions in late June have been generally favourable for potato harvesting, supporting the steady increase in domestic supply to wholesale markets.
