Polish field cucumber prices diverge: Bronisze sees €1.2–1.4/kg for greenhouse, up to €1.4/kg for field
Wholesale cucumber prices in Poland are under strong pressure due to high supply and heat, with wide price gaps between greenhouse and field-grown produce. The area under cultivation increased in 2026 after several years of decline.
On the Bronisze wholesale market at the end of June 2026, prices for greenhouse cucumbers (brodawkowe, under cover) dropped sharply to €0.3–0.7/kg (1.5–3.0 PLN/kg), with lowest transactions at €0.3/kg (1.5 PLN/kg) due to oversupply. Field-grown cucumbers are fetching much higher prices: the smallest calibers reach €1.2–1.4/kg (5.0–6.0 PLN/kg), while larger sizes are priced around €0.7/kg (3.0 PLN/kg). Demand is focused on field cucumbers, while interest in greenhouse produce has weakened significantly.
On other wholesale markets, prices also vary: at Łódź Zjazdowa, cucumbers are priced at €0.7–1.4/kg (3–6 PLN/kg), at Lublin Elizówka €1.2–1.3/kg (5–5.5 PLN/kg), and in Poznań, a 5 kg crate of field cucumbers sells for €5.8–7.0 (25–30 PLN), i.e. €1.2–1.4/kg. For małosolne cucumbers, prices at Zjazdowa reached €2.6–2.8/kg (11–12 PLN/kg), while in Poznań, 1.5 kg sold for €5.6 (24 PLN), i.e. €3.7/kg.
The supply of Polish cucumbers has increased in 2026, with the cultivated area rising to 5,438.6 ha, up over 430 ha from 2025, according to ARiMR data. The largest production regions are Mazowieckie (1,564.9 ha), Świętokrzyskie (779.4 ha), Łódzkie (731.2 ha), Wielkopolskie (631.6 ha), and Lubelskie (345.3 ha). Despite the increase, total area remains below the 2021 peak.
The market is experiencing high supply from both field and greenhouse production, but the onset of hot weather has accelerated sales and increased pressure to move product quickly, especially for greenhouse cucumbers where maintaining quality is challenging. Buyer demand has become cautious, with traders limiting purchases due to uncertainty over quick resale in hot conditions.
Manual harvesting remains a bottleneck for expanding production, as finding seasonal workers is increasingly difficult in key cucumber-growing regions.
