Polish Plum Prices Fall Amid Balkan Import Pressure

Polish wholesale and farm-gate plum prices dropped sharply at the start of August 2026, following a surge of cheap imports from Serbia and other Balkan countries.

At the Bronisze wholesale market near Warsaw on 3 August 2026, plums traded at €0.5–0.9/kg (2–4 PLN/kg). The 'węgierka' type plums were priced at €0.5–0.8/kg (2.2–3.5 PLN/kg), while large-fruited plums reached €1.2–1.6/kg (5–7 PLN/kg).

Farm-gate prices for plums in Poland have declined since the start of the season. On Monday of the previous week, collection began at €0.7/kg (3.00 PLN/kg), but within one or two days, rates fell to €0.6/kg (2.40–2.50 PLN/kg). Current week farm-gate prices have not been reported.

The Polish retail and wholesale sector is seeing reduced demand for domestic plums as supermarkets shift purchasing to cheaper Balkan imports. Major retail chains have limited purchases of Polish plums, using them only as a supplement to large volumes of imported fruit. Buyers have cited lower prices as the main reason for this shift.

In Serbia, a bumper plum harvest and ideal weather conditions have resulted in record yields and very low export prices. Export-quality plums are being purchased at €0.3/kg (1.10 PLN/kg) in Serbia, while plums for brandy production fetch only €0.1/kg (0.55 PLN/kg). This price differential is putting additional downward pressure on the Polish market.

The effect of high Serbian and Moldovan yields is expected to continue influencing Polish plum prices and trade volumes as the Balkan harvest progresses.
