Sharp Drop in Sour Cherry Prices for Processing, Bronisze Wholesale Remains Higher

Sour cherry prices for freezing in Poland fell by 30% in early August, while wholesale prices at the Bronisze market remain significantly higher than processor prices.

At the Bronisze wholesale market near Warsaw on 11 August 2026, sour cherries (wiśnie) were quoted at €1.6–2.3/kg (7–10 PLN/kg). These wholesale prices are significantly above the average prices offered by processing plants for industrial cherries during the same period.

According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, the average price paid by processors for sour cherries intended for freezing dropped from €1.5/kg (6.38 PLN/kg) in late July to €1.0/kg (4.38 PLN/kg) in early August 2026. For sour cherries delivered for juice, the average processor price was €0.7/kg (2.94–2.95 PLN/kg) during weeks 30 and 31 of 2026.

This 30% week-on-week decline in the freezing category is attributed to a sharp drop in demand from the processing industry. Market participants report that the pricing situation is being monitored by the competition authority (UOKiK), amid concerns about market practices, but no evidence of price collusion has been confirmed.

The peak of the cherry harvest in July and early August coincided with a period of lower demand from processors and increased supply from growers, contributing to the downward pressure on farm-gate prices. There are no indications of weather disruptions affecting the ongoing harvest in the main production regions.
