Storm Damage in Grójec Region, Plum Wholesale Prices Hold Steady

Strong buyer demand for Polish plums continues in mid-August, but wholesale and farm-gate prices remain stable despite recent storm damage in key production areas.

Farm-gate prices for purple plum varieties (over 32 mm diameter) in the Grójec region on 12 August 2026 stood at €0.49/kg (2.10 PLN/kg), with little change from previous weeks. For plums of the Węgierka type delivered in larger packaging, some buyers offered €0.58/kg (2.50 PLN/kg). On wholesale markets, premium varieties such as Jubileum, Polinka, and Węgierka Dąbrowicka achieved €0.7–0.9/kg (3–4 PLN/kg) and higher for top-quality fruit. Cacanska Lepotica lots from cold storage were widely offered at €0.6–0.7/kg (2.5–3 PLN/kg).

In the supply context, a severe hailstorm hit the Grójec fruit-growing region during the night of 11–12 August. Preliminary estimates indicate that around 3,200 hectares of orchards, including plum plantations, may have suffered damage. The impact of the hailstorm is highly localized, with some orchards almost entirely affected and others virtually untouched. Full assessment of the losses will require further expert analysis.

Despite the weather disruption, trade in plums has become more active compared to late July and early August. Growers report a greater fluidity in transactions, and the market is characterized by a predominance of purchase offers, particularly as supermarkets ramp up procurement of domestic plums.
