Strawberry Prices at Bronisze Peak as Season Nears End, Late Varieties Dominate

2026-07-08 07:31

The Polish strawberry season is ending, with only late varieties, mainly Malwina and Cadenza, still present on the market. Wholesale prices at Bronisze in early July 2026 reached €3.2–4.6/kg (14–20 PLN/kg), averaging €3.7/kg (16 PLN/kg).

At the Bronisze wholesale market near Warsaw, the strawberry season is coming to a close. As of early July 2026, only late varieties like Malwina remain available. The wholesale price for strawberries at Bronisze is currently between €3.2 and €4.6 per kilogram (14–20 PLN/kg), with the most common price reported at €3.7/kg (16 PLN/kg). Trader and retailer demand has been unstable, with many market sellers reducing their activity during the persistent heatwave.

Supplies of Polish strawberries are now very limited. The main harvest of traditional early and mid-season varieties has finished across most growing regions. Only late cultivars such as Malwina and some plantations of Cadenza are still being picked, with the latter showing good fruit size (average 35–40 g) and high quality despite the challenging weather. On one highlighted plantation, single-harvest yields of Cadenza reached 4 tonnes per hectare.

Weather conditions in June and July 2026 have been marked by frequent temperatures above 30°C and intense sunlight, which have stressed plants and reduced the size of some fruit. Nevertheless, late-planted and well-irrigated crops have maintained commercial quality. Most growers have now shifted to post-harvest field work, as the focus turns to plant care and preparation for the next production cycle.

Import controls have continued on frozen strawberries, with Polish authorities recently rejecting a batch from Egypt due to excessive pesticide residues (oksamyl). In 2025, Poland imported over 80,000 tonnes of frozen strawberries from Egypt, though the affected batch did not reach the Polish market this season.

With the strawberry season ending, the market share for strawberries is rapidly being replaced by cherries and blueberries. Wholesale volumes of domestic strawberries are now low, and the market is transitioning to other summer fruits.
