Tomato prices drop sharply at Bronisze as supply from Polish fields increases

Wholesale tomato prices at Bronisze have fallen in mid-July 2026, driven by a surge in supply from open field harvests and ongoing greenhouse production. Buyer demand remains stable, but the market is experiencing strong downward price pressure.

On the wholesale market in Bronisze near Warsaw, tomato prices have dropped significantly as the supply of domestic field tomatoes increases. In the second week of July 2026, round field tomatoes are trading at €0.5–0.6/kg (2.20–2.60 PLN/kg), down from over €1.1/kg (5 PLN/kg) in late June. Greenhouse tomatoes are also available, with prices at Bronisze at €0.7–0.8/kg (3.00–3.50 PLN/kg) for standard loose types.

The price decline is attributed to the seasonal influx of field-grown tomatoes from major producing regions such as Mazowieckie, Wielkopolskie, and Kujawsko-Pomorskie, where favorable weather in early July accelerated ripening and harvest. As a result, daily market arrivals have increased, creating strong competition among producers and traders.

Despite stable demand from retailers and the foodservice sector, buyers are able to choose from a wide range of domestic tomatoes, putting further pressure on prices. Some producers report difficulty selling lower-quality fruit, with prices at times dropping to €0.4/kg (1.80 PLN/kg) for unsorted batches.

Poland continues to export limited volumes of greenhouse tomatoes to neighboring countries, but the main focus remains on the domestic market during the peak season. Imports of tomatoes from Spain and the Netherlands have decreased sharply since early July, as Polish supply covers most commercial needs.

Weather conditions in July have generally supported tomato production, with moderate daytime temperatures and occasional rainfall. No significant disruptions from hail or storms have been reported in key growing areas.
