Tunnel-grown strawberries command high prices in Warsaw, late July 2026

2026-07-28 07:35

The Polish strawberry market is now dominated by high-quality tunnel-grown fruit, with wholesale prices at the Bronisze market reaching €3.9–6.9/kg (17–30 PLN/kg) in late July.

Wholesale trade of strawberries in Poland is focused on tunnel-grown produce, as the open-field harvest has ended. At the Bronisze wholesale market near Warsaw, prices for strawberries on 29 July 2026 ranged from €3.9 to €6.9 per kilogram (17–30 PLN/kg), reflecting the limited availability and premium quality of the tunnel-grown fruit now on offer.

Retail prices remain elevated. At the Hala Mirowska market in Warsaw, small containers of strawberries were sold at €4.2–4.6 per unit (18–20 PLN), while in the ALDI retail chain, a 0.5 kg pack of the Malling Centenary variety was priced at €1.8 (7.99 PLN), equivalent to €3.6/kg. These figures indicate continued strong demand for late strawberries despite the end of the main field season.

The current supply is sourced almost exclusively from tunnel cultivation, as the open-field (ground) harvest concluded earlier in July. Tunnel-grown strawberries, particularly high-quality varieties, are dominating both wholesale and retail channels. Producers report that tunnel-grown crops have maintained good condition despite recent heatwaves exceeding 30°C, followed by a rapid temperature drop in July.

Weather conditions in July were marked by extreme fluctuations, with high temperatures followed by sudden cooling. Despite these challenges, tunnel-grown strawberry plants, such as the 'Karima' variety, have retained healthy foliage and fruit quality, supporting consistent supply for the late season market.

There are no reports of significant imports or exports of strawberries affecting the Polish market at this stage. The trade remains focused on domestic tunnel production, with buyer demand sustaining high price levels for quality fruit.
