Tunnel-Grown Strawberry Prices Surge in Warsaw as Field Season Ends

At the Bronisze wholesale market near Warsaw, strawberries are currently priced at €2.3–6.9/kg (10–30 PLN/kg) as of 28 July 2026. The majority of these strawberries are sourced from tunnel cultivation, with field-grown strawberry harvests having concluded earlier in July. High-quality tunnel-grown strawberries are quoted at €4.6–5.8/kg (20–25 PLN/kg), reflecting limited supply and strong demand for premium fruit late in the season.
On Warsaw’s Hala Mirowska market, retail prices for strawberries are reported at €4.2–4.6 per small tray (18–20 PLN), while supermarket chains such as ALDI are offering 0.5 kg packs of the Malling Centenary variety at €1.8 (7.99 PLN), corresponding to €3.6/kg. These prices highlight the premium commanded by tunnel-grown fruit as domestic open-field supplies diminish.
Demand for Polish strawberries remains robust despite the seasonal shift. The availability of domestic fruit is now largely restricted to tunnel-grown varieties, which are preferred for their quality and extended season. No data on Polish strawberry exports or imports is reported for the current period.
Weather conditions in July have been marked by heatwaves exceeding 30°C, followed by abrupt cooling. Despite these extreme fluctuations, tunnel strawberry plantations such as those in the Legsad farm have maintained good plant condition, with healthy foliage and consistent yields, due to proactive crop management.
In Germany, the 2026 field strawberry harvest is expected to be the smallest in over 30 years, but no direct impact on Polish imports or exports has been reported. The Polish market continues to operate predominantly with domestic tunnel-grown strawberries as of late July.
