Wholesale Plum Prices Stable Amid High Demand and Local Storm Damage
Farm-gate and wholesale prices for Polish plums remain stable despite strong buyer demand and recent storm-related damage in the Grójec region.
On the Bronisze wholesale market near Warsaw, as of 13 August 2026, prices for Hungarian-type plums range from €0.8 to €1.2/kg (3.5–5 PLN/kg), while large-fruited plum varieties are quoted at €0.9–1.3/kg (4–5.5 PLN/kg). Imported plums are priced at €0.8–1.4/kg (3.6–6 PLN/kg). These prices show stability compared to recent weeks, despite increased purchasing activity from food retail chains and wholesalers.
Farm-gate prices for purple plum varieties with a diameter over 32 mm in the Grójec region are reported at €0.5/kg (2.10 PLN/kg) as of 12 August 2026. Fruit of the Węgierka type, delivered in large plastic crates, is purchased by some buyers at €0.6/kg (2.50 PLN/kg). On wholesale markets, standard purple varieties are sold at around €0.6/kg (2.50 PLN/kg), but premium varieties such as Jubileum, Polinka, and Węgierka Dąbrowicka achieve higher prices of €0.7–0.9/kg (3.00–4.00 PLN/kg).
Demand for plums has increased following promotional campaigns by major retail chains, including Biedronka and Lidl, which have started sourcing domestic fruit. Retail promotions have seen consumer prices drop to €0.9/kg (3.99 PLN/kg) in some outlets, stimulating further buyer interest and driving a high volume of purchase offers from the trade.
On the supply side, a severe hailstorm struck the Grójec fruit-growing region in the night of 11–12 August, affecting an estimated 3,200 hectares of orchards. While the exact extent of plum crop losses is not yet quantified, grower reports indicate localized but severe damage, with some orchards suffering major fruit loss and tree damage, while others nearby remain largely unaffected.
Despite the weather-related disruptions, there remains a steady availability of Cacanska Lepotica plums from cold storage on the market, with bulk lots of several to a dozen tons offered at €0.6–0.7/kg (2.50–3.00 PLN/kg) on trading platforms.
