Wide Price Gap for Cucumbers at Polish Wholesale Markets in Early July
Cucumber prices in Poland show a significant disparity between field-grown and greenhouse produce, with high demand for the first field batches pushing prices up at major wholesale markets.
At the Bronisze wholesale market near Warsaw in early July 2026, field-grown cucumbers (type śremski), especially the smallest grades, are trading at €1.2–1.4/kg (5–6 PLN/kg), while some lots reach up to €1.6/kg (7 PLN/kg). In contrast, greenhouse-grown spiky cucumbers are available for €0.3–0.5/kg (1.5–2 PLN/kg), and larger greenhouse lots are offered as low as €0.3/kg (1.5 PLN/kg). Greenhouse smooth cucumbers from younger plantings fetch up to €0.8/kg (3.5 PLN/kg), but older plantings are priced lower, around €0.3–0.5/kg (1.5–2 PLN/kg), with weak buyer interest for this segment.
Other wholesale markets show a similar pattern. At the Poznań market (Wielkopolska Gildia Rolno-Ogrodnicza), field-grown cucumbers are priced at €1.2–1.4/kg (25–30 PLN/5kg), and greenhouse cucumbers at €1.2–1.3/kg (25–28 PLN/5kg). In Kalisz, field cucumbers are at €0.3–0.5/kg (1.5–2 PLN/kg), and greenhouse at €0.5/kg (2 PLN/kg). In Łódź (Zjazdowa market), cucumber prices range from €0.5 to €1.2/kg (2–5 PLN/kg).
The arrival of cooler weather after a heatwave increased market activity at Bronisze, as producers resumed harvesting and more fresh produce reached the market. The increased supply from field-grown cucumbers has led to a rapid drop in greenhouse cucumber prices, especially for larger calibers and older plantings.
Buyer demand is highest for the first field-grown cucumbers, with prices significantly above those for greenhouse types. The season’s start for field cucumbers is marked by strong interest from traders and buyers, particularly for the smallest, premium-quality lots.
Recent weather conditions, including a heatwave followed by cooler days, temporarily limited field work and harvesting, but the improved weather has boosted both trade volume and supply in early July.
