Wide price gap for cucumbers in Bronisze and key wholesale markets
Cucumber prices in Poland show significant disparities between field-grown and greenhouse produce, with field cucumbers in Bronisze wholesale market reaching up to €1.6/kg for the smallest grades, while greenhouse types are traded at much lower levels.
On the Bronisze wholesale market near Warsaw, early July 2026, field-grown cucumbers (smallest grade) are trading at €1.2–1.4/kg (5–6 PLN/kg), with top offers for the smallest fruits up to €1.6/kg (7 PLN/kg). In contrast, prickly (brodawkowe) greenhouse cucumbers are sold at €0.3–0.7/kg (1.5–3 PLN/kg), with most offers between €0.3–0.5/kg (1.5–2 PLN/kg). Smooth greenhouse cucumbers from new plantings are priced at €0.8/kg (3.5 PLN/kg), while produce from older plantings fetches €0.3–0.5/kg (1.5–2 PLN/kg).
At other Polish wholesale markets, prices for field cucumbers are lower. In Kalisz, field-grown cucumbers are offered at €0.3–0.5/kg (1.5–2 PLN/kg), and greenhouse cucumbers at €0.5/kg (2 PLN/kg). In Łódź, cucumber prices range from €0.5–1.2/kg (2–5 PLN/kg) depending on type and size. In Poznań, both field and greenhouse cucumbers are sold at €1.2–1.4/kg (25–30 PLN/5 kg and 25–28 PLN/5 kg, respectively).
The recent period of extreme heat reduced harvesting activity, but the subsequent temperature drop led to increased market supply and greater trading activity, especially in Bronisze. Higher volumes of field cucumbers have entered the market, which has intensified price competition with greenhouse produce and led to steep discounts for larger-caliber greenhouse cucumbers.
Buyer demand is currently much stronger for field-grown cucumbers, particularly the smallest grades, which is supporting their higher prices. Greenhouse cucumber demand is weaker, especially for older plantings, where quality is less consistent and prices are under pressure.
The cucumber harvest has accelerated following the end of the heatwave, with improved weather conditions allowing growers to increase picking and boost market supply.
