Strawberries still expensive on the Polish market

2022-03-28 11:03

Prices of imported to Poland fresh strawberries in the second half of the twelfth week of this year were clearly falling on the wholesale market. This was the second such decline in March, broken by an upward correction around the twenty-first of this month. Despite this recent decline, prices for fresh strawberries remain relatively high, which is not unusual.

Currently, the prices of imported fresh strawberries offered to the Polish wholesale trade on a larger scale are 9.00-12.00 PLN per kilogram. The cumulative drop over the past week was 19 percent. Last year, at the end of March, the average wholesale price for these fruit in fresh-market.pl editorial monitoring quotations was at 14.00 PLN/kg, but last year was expensive because the season was delayed by the weather. In the two previous years, these prices were around 9 PLN/kg.

In Spain, strawberry prices (producer prices) were still on the rise in the eleventh week of the year (latest data from the Junta de Andalusia Price Observatory). The average was €1.89/kg compared with €1.81/kg the week before (+4 per cent). The price was also higher year-on-year, as in the eleventh week of 2021 it was 1.24 euros/kg (+52 per cent). Estimates are that by the eleventh week, Spain had harvested around 32.4 per cent of the volume expected for the season.
