Supply of imported strawberries is growing in Poland

2021-04-13 10:38
In week thirteen, the Spanish strawberry harvest campaign crossed the halfway point. This means that it has entered the period of highest current supply. From week fifteen/sixteen, this current supply will already begin to gradually decrease. The increase in Spain's daily strawberry harvest brings increasing downward pressure on prices there. In week thirteen producer prices in Spain fell by as much as 27 per cent to an average of €0.64/kg (a year ago it was €0.83/kg and two years ago €0.63/kg).

The Polish market has also seen a dynamic increase in the supply of imported strawberries in recent days, although the available quantities are still apparently lower than in the pre-pandemic seasons. The blockade of the catering sector and a change in consumer behaviour have clearly left their mark on the strawberry market this season and on the European market as a whole.

Prices of imported strawberries in the Polish wholesale market are currently most often between 7.00 and 13.00 PLN per kg. Greek strawberries are slightly cheaper and Spanish strawberries are slightly more expensive, although this obviously depends on the quality of the fruit. Interestingly, the first offers of domestic Elsanta from tunnels have already appeared at prices of 17.00-20.00 PLN/kg. At the same time, Dutch Elsanta is available at prices not higher than 16.00 PLN/kg.
