Trading of white cabbage picked up after Easter in Poland
The Easter period brought a natural slowdown in traders' activity on the wholesale fresh produce market. This was also visible in the case of white cabbage. Before Easter, trading on the large wholesale market slowed down and this was even reflected in prices, with the average selling price dropping by 5 cents per kilo.
However, immediately after Easter, the white cabbage market recovered and large-scale wholesale in this segment clearly gained momentum. In this case, the increase in demand is combined with a limited supply of cabbage available from Polish producers. As a result, we again have a dynamic increase in prices, as can be seen in the chart above.
Currently, the sale prices of white cabbage in the large wholesalers is 1,50-2,00 PLN/kg, which is almost 30 percent more than before Christmas. In the small wholesale market, prices have already exceeded the level of 2 PLN/kg and in Bronisze the offer prices reach 2.35 PLN/kg.
The current price level of white cabbage is much higher than in the same period last year. In the big wholesale this difference is as much as 99 percent! Our chart shows that the average price is currently significantly higher than all previous years included except for the record-breaking 2018/2019 season and that record is unlikely to be broken there.
