Prices of celery are lower, but definitely not low.

In this campaign, the situation on the celery market in Poland is developing very unusually. The seasonal downward trend in the prices of these vegetables, visible in large wholesale since July of this year, was interrupted very quickly, around mid-September. And the prices of celery started to rise, even though they were relatively high before. This can be seen on our chart.

It can also be seen on the chart that in mid-October, the prices of celery started to decrease again. Currently, they range from 2.60-3.20 PLN/kg most often (selling prices of washed, graded, and bagged celery). Dirty celery in commercial grades has prices of 1.60-2.60 PLN/kg, depending on the packaging.

As can be seen, despite a 15% drop from the highest level in September of this year, but it is worth noting that price drops seen in large wholesale markets do not always reflect similar trends in local wholesale markets. Prices of these vegetables in small wholesale often remain in the range of 3.00-4.00 PLN/kg. Of course, current prices in large wholesale are still significantly above levels from previous years. They are as much as 65% above the long-term average.

Of course, it should be remembered that the downward trend in celery prices in large wholesale markets can last until December. This was the case in the years 2019, 2020, and 2021. But it seems that in the current season, we might see a faster end to any price bottom for celery. Perhaps as fast as last year – even before the end of November?
