Chinese cabbage is cheaper, but not cheap.

Chinese cabbage on the Polish wholesale market is cheaper than last week. The price drop in the large wholesale market amounted to an average of one złoty per kilogram (0.23 EU/kg), which is close to 15 percent. It is a fairly dynamic price reduction, but it doesn't change much in the overall picture when it comes to the pricing situation in this market.

The selling prices of Chinese cabbage ("ready-to-sell") in the large wholesale market currently range from 5.00 to 6.50 zł/kg (1.17 to 1.52 EUR/kg). As seen on the chart, even though it is cheaper, it is certainly not cheap. The average price remains exceptionally high, giving a clear advantage over other prices from the same period in the previous five seasons. Compared to the long-term average, there is an increase of up to 131 percent.

But does this trend have a chance to continue in the coming weeks? The advantage is still very significant, but it could easily be significantly reduced. A sustained improvement in weather conditions is all it takes. Even with optimal synoptic conditions, not all losses can be recovered, but an improvement in supply during the main harvest season could be significant. However, this scenario requires both time and stable, optimal weather conditions. Without heatwaves and violent storms with heavy rain.
