Poland. Is Chinese cabbage already in the summer price dip?
The situation on the Polish market for Chinese cabbage is developing this year in a fundamentally different way from last year's scenario. It is not surprising, given that the spring-summer part of the 2023 campaign had a completely atypical course.
The supply of "Chinese cabbage" remained limited, and wholesale prices for this cabbage remained at record high levels, as seen in the chart below. In the current season, we are seeing a typical downward trend in prices for Chinese cabbage. Although this downward trend was interrupted in the first half of June, it returned with renewed energy last week.
Wholesale prices for "Chinese cabbage" dropped by 23% from June 18 and ranged from 2.00-2.60 PLN/kg, depending on the size and quality (prices refer to goods in cartons). Of course, the further development of price trends largely depends on the weather.
Both rainy and cloudy weather, as well as weather with high temperatures, can halt further price declines for "Chinese cabbage." However, for now, the continuation of the downward trend, typical for this vegetable known as the "summer price dip," is the most likely scenario.
