Kiwi prices are higher in Poland, but...
This season there was no increase in kiwi prices in the run-up to Christmas. On the contrary, wholesale prices for green kiwifruit fell by 9 per cent to 4.00-6.00 zloty/kg at the end of December. Now, on the other hand, there has been a strengthening of wholesale prices for this fruit, but this strengthening only means a return to the level of the second half of December last year.
As a result, green kiwifruit is currently being offered at a higher wholesale price range of 4.00-7.00 PLN/kg. This gives a ten per cent increase and, as mentioned above, a return to the state before the last change.
The question is, could the recent strengthening of kiwi prices signal the start of some kind of longer-term trend in this direction? Looking at previous seasons this is rather doubtful. A clear increase in kiwi prices in the long term can be expected in the spring, when the trading season in Europe enters its final phase. For the time being, fluctuations in kiwi prices resulting from, for example, weather changes, which will affect logistics and current demand, are more likely.
