Watermelons are undoubtedly one of the symbols of summer. Poland receives most of them in July. Last July, 43.2 thousand tons of this fruit were imported to Poland (3.5 thousand tons less than a year earlier). Italy remains the main summer supplier of watermelons to Poland. read more

Lemon prices in the Polish wholesale market have remained at a very low level since January this year. In the offers of importers, in the wholesale trade on a larger scale, they are most often offered at 3.00-5.50 PLN per kg, depending on the country of origin, packaging and quality. The offer is dominated by fruit from two countries - Turkey and Spain (the former are usually cheaper).

The supply of pears on the Polish market remains relatively high. Or even not "relatively", but simply "high". WAPA estimated, that the stock on January 1 of this year amounted to 26 thousand tons. This is as much as 270 per cent more than a year earlier. read more

The Gala variety remains one of the most popular apples in Europe, alongside Golden and Prince. These apples are selling significantly better than other red varieties or Mutsu, not to mention Idared. read more

The situation on the Polish wholesale potato market has slightly improved compared to January this year. The improvement may not be huge, as it's around 20 per cent on average in terms of prices, but compared to what happened earlier, it's still not bad. The first batches of cucumbers from the new domestic crop have reached the Polish market. Although these vegetables are available all year round, their supply is drastically reduced in January and the retail market (especially chain stores) is then almost entirely dominated by imports.

Winter is obviously not the period of a significant presence of highbush blueberry on the Polish fresh fruit market. In January and February, it has to be imported from far away - from the southern hemisphere. First, blueberries from Peru and then from Chile dominate these imports. read more

It's winter, and not just the calendar winter. This means a partial "freeze" in apple processing, and thus a reduction in current demand for raw material for this production. On the other hand, something is going on in the processing industry and apples have to be obtained, and their availability is now limited. read more

According to WAPA, the stock of Golden Delicious apples was 130,000 tonnes on 1 January this year. This is 30,000 tonnes more than last year (+30%), which could be worrying information, as larger stocks usually mean more pressure on the price. WAPA has published an updated estimate of pear stocks. As for the European Union countries, stocks of this fruit, as of 1 January 2021, amounted to 756,710 tonnes. The vast majority of these stocks, 529,920 tonnes, are Conference pears. A month earlier, the volume of pear stocks was estimated at 899,464 tonnes. read more

A new season of domestic greenhouse tomatoes (round red) is starting slightly earlier than a year ago. As far as raspberry tomatoes from Polish glasshouses are concerned, they are available all year round, but in December and January, the supply decreases noticeably. read more

The domestic wholesale trade in beetroot has been in a clear slump since the beginning of December last year - both in terms of price and demand. To make matters worse, this plunge followed an autumn period that was itself quite poor in terms of prices for this vegetable. read more

Pineapples from Costa Rica appeared on the Polish market at a fairly typical time, in November. This, of course, resulted in a certain decrease in the price of this fruit, but in this season this reduction was limited. After this, prices have basically stabilised. read more

A lot has been going on in the aubergine market this January. A real snowy and cold winter arrived in Spain, causing a catastrophic drop in the current harvest of the vegetable in Almeria and Murcia, where this production is centered. read more

​In the passing week, the price monitoring of the fresh-market.pl portal recorded a slight strengthening of red cabbage prices, when it comes to trade in the big wholesale. The change was of a limited character, as it was +6 per cent upwards. read more

The past few seasons have not been easy for Polish growers of Red Jonaprince apples. And it did not depend on the size of the harvest of this variety and of apples in general. Of course, supply had an impact on prices, but both when prices were low and when they were high, producers of the popular "Prince" had to face the challenges of storing this variety. read more

We analyse the CSO data for the whole year 2020 and the production of frozen vegetables and fruit and vegetable juices as well as vegetable pickles. In this period, we can see a decrease in the production sector of juices, frozen vegetables and especially frozen fruits in relation to 2019. Only in the category of vegetable pickles the CSO recorded a year-on-year increase in production. read more

After a more pronounced improvement of onion prices in the Polish wholesale (almost by one third), which took place in November last year, we had to wait until January this year for another change in plus. However, it was not so impressive as prices of bagged onion increased only by less than 6 per cent on average. read more

January brought an increase in carrot prices in the Polish wholesale trade. To be more precise, this trend was initiated at the beginning of the second week of this month, after the end of a period in which trade was interrupted by successive holidays. read more
