Chinese cabbage prices are still up in Poland

2021-01-22 11:22

There is a revival on the Chinese cabbage market. Demand has strengthened and prices have followed suit. The development of the price trend is almost an exact copy of what happened five years ago, in the 2015/2016 season. Then, too, the prices of "pekinki" grew in such a dynamic way as now. This can be seen in our graph below.

Producers are, of course, happy with the increase in prices, although the problem is that the demand and better prices are for very good quality goods. And that is the problem. Weaker quality "pekina" is much more difficult to sell and not for such prices. And these are currently at the level of 1.70-2.60 PLN/kg (in terms of sales, for goods in a carton). This means an increase of almost 39 per cent since the New Year.

Our chart also shows one more thing - at the beginning of 2016, the increase in the price of Chinese cabbage lasted only until 24 January, then it abruptly broke off and a downward trend came. The average price fell from 2.15złoty/kg (the level it is now) to 1.70 złoty/kg in early February and 1.50 złoty /kg around 22 February. Such a February price bottom is quite typical for this product and is very likely to occur in the current season.
