Domestic aubergine season has started in Poland

2021-06-30 11:32
With considerable slippage, but they are finally here. The first aubergines from domestic greenhouse crops have reached the wholesale market in Poland. For now, they are in small quantities, but if the weather remains favourable, the supply situation may improve significantly within a dozen days.

It is worth noting that the start of this year's aubergine season was even more delayed than last year, when it started around June 25, 2020. This can also be seen in prices. Last year, the average selling price at the large wholesaler fell from 25 to 30 June from PLN 5.00/kg to PLN 4.00/kg.

At present, however, aubergine selling prices in the wholesale trade on a larger scale are in the range of 4.00-4.80 PLN/kg, giving an average of 4.40 PLN/kg, 10 per cent higher year-on-year. Prices for these vegetables at the fresh market are 2.70-2.80 PLN/kg. With favourable weather, the supply of aubergines should increase rapidly, making up for the delay compared to last season. This means that the supply peak should occur around mid-July.
