Domestic stone fruit in Poland- the weather has not been favorable this year

2021-08-16 10:06
This year's stone fruit season in Poland (peaches, nectarines, apricots) is marked by the negative impact of the weather on the harvest and the quality of these fruits. Thunderstorms, including hailstorms, alternating with hot weather will not benefit the high production of good quality fruit.

This can be seen in their wholesale prices, which have remained higher than a year ago since the start of the season. And yet, the first half of August is already coming to an end and the season for domestic peaches, nectarines and apricots will soon move beyond the peak supply phase. Wholesale prices of domestic peaches are currently at 3.00-6.75 PLN/kg, depending on the calibre and quality. This is on average around 40 per cent more expensive than a year ago. The prices of nectarines are in the range of 5.00-6.00 PLN/kg, on average around 30 per cent higher than a year ago. Prices for apricots from domestic orchards are at 5.00-10.00 PLN/kg, on average around 40 per cent more than in the same period last year.

When it comes to imported stone fruit, their offer obviously dominates in retail, in markets. Their prices increased slightly in the last decade of July and remained at this elevated level through the first week of August. Now their supply is again higher and prices have returned to a downward trend. The prices of imported peaches are 4.00-4.50 PLN per kg (+4 per cent year on year), nectarines 4.50-6.00 PLN per kg (+5 per cent year on year) and apricots 4.00-5.50 PLN per kg (+12 per cent year on year). The season for this fruit is just at the peak of supply and the current prices are probably seasonal minima.
