Golden Delicious - Poland is in a favorable position

According to WAPA, the stock of Golden Delicious apples was 130,000 tonnes on 1 January this year. This is 30,000 tonnes more than last year (+30%), which could be worrying information, as larger stocks usually mean more pressure on the price. Even in the current phase of the winter-spring part of the marketing season.

But it is worth putting this data into the background, which is the information on Golden stocks across the EU. According to the same WAPA data it was 886,000 tonnes on 1 January. And this was one of the lowest stock levels of the Golden variety in EU countries in recent years. This compares with 1 059 000 tonnes at the beginning of January 2020, i.e. a 16% drop year-on-year.

So it seems that Polish producers of Golden Delicius apples are in a good position relative to their EU competitors. They have a little more apple than a year ago, and at EU level there is less of it. Of course, quality is also important here, but the starting point for the coming months is promising.

As far as prices for Golden in the Polish large wholesale market are concerned, at buying for calibre 70+ it is usually 1.70-2.00 PLN/kg and this range has remained stable for some time, as can be seen on the graph. You can also see that the current average price of 1.85 PLN/kg is the same as in the same period last year. Then it did not change for a long time, will it be similar this season?
